What is Dyslexia?

Dyslexia is a common language-based learning disability. People with dyslexia have difficulty with word reading. They have difficulty associating the speech sounds they hear to written letters. Reading and writing letters in the wrong order does not occur in all cases. Dyslexia can also affect reading comprehension, spelling, writing, and pronouncing and learning words. Dyslexia emerges in childhood and continues into adulthood. The level of impact dyslexia has on an individual can change depending on their phase in life. Dyslexia is not caused by speaking multiple languages or by lack of intelligence or desire to learn. It occurs in people of all backgrounds. With proper help, many people with dyslexia can learn to read and write well.
